.the.2nd.anniversary.

we went to nyc for a long weekend (sat - tues). i can't say enough how much i nyc...*sigh* i do wish we moved there for a few years, but c'est la vie. arch likes visiting, but has said he wouldn't want to move there. but i digress...

anyways, we bought our flights (~ $200!, not bad!) , got upgraded to 1st on the way there (wtf is wrong with the food in 1st class nowadays? like a small saucer of fruit is enough to go with my bloody mary??), stayed at the sheraton and hilton on our points (thank god dh is still earning those thru work), and just had a fab time. it was nice to actually spend time alone together. the gist of our trip is that we basically ate our way thru manhatten...ha!

other highlights:
saturday - met up with a friend who was there taking a photography workshop with a photographer who is part of the magnum photographers group. ate some goooooood ny pizza. i think i'm now a fan. then that night we got tickets to see les mis...i was so danm excited for this because lea salonga was in it playing the part of fantine (cosette's mom)! lea is a famous filipino musical actress, who won a tony award in the 90s for playing the part of kim in miss saigon. it's so rare to see her, that when i saw she was still performing, i just had to get tickets! it was so wierd knowing that she has played the part of eponine, years ago, and is now old enough to play the part of fantine...how the years fly by...

sunday - grabbed brunch at a diner and planned on going to soho for some shopping. but on the way to soho, we ended up checking out this autumn festival that apparently moves to different streets around manhatten each weekend. this past weekend it was on ave of the americas between like 57th and somewhere into the 40s...so we basically ate our way thru there....

afterwards, we found our way to soho (took forever to find a cab, should have just taken their awesome subway system), ate dinner in chinatown, and dessert in little italy. mmmmm, dessert..

monday (our anniversary!) - we stayed in the midtown area since we had conan tickets. got breakfast food at sarabeth's on 59th (can you tell breakfast food is my favorite?!), and walked around one of my most favorite places in the world - central park :

then around 3PM, we got to 30 rock for the conan taping. they give away tickets with random letters on the back which determines the order of the line. we got 'A'! so we were the 1st people in thru security at 4:15; we ended up being the last people out of the elevator though, when we got to the floor where the taping takes place, which was a blessing because we ended up in the front row, towards the aisle...and we ended up all over the show, and you could also see me in the background of a commercial for conan that aired during leno. if you missed this show, someone posted the clips on youtube...we were so lucky to get to this taping because conan was fucking HILARIOUS. he ended up having to ad-lib because of an unplanned fire alarm going off on the 5th floor during the segment between his guests...HILARIOUS...just watch these clips (they're also posted below this post, just scrolly down):

you can see me and dh in the background when the camera cuts to the producer...there are like 4 or 5 different shots. i'm wearing a black top and arch is wearing a hat.

they had this big-well-dressed security guy watching the entire audience like a hawk, so we couldn't take pics in the studio...but here's one after the taping outside by the ice rink:

that night we ate dinner at patsy's an italian place on 57th (i think?), which used to be an old hangout of frank sinatra...good food and service.

tuesday - ate our only free breakfast at the hilton honors lounge (mmmm, good food), then decided we should take the subway down to the statue of liberty. we got there too late, so we couldn't get tickets to actually go up the statue, but we still bought tickets to get to liberty island...
on the ferry:

walked our way past the WTC site, and right towards century 21...anyone been?? i shouldn't have wasted my time anywhere else, but at that point, i didn't want to shop anymore...but archie did get a nice kurtz shirt for 65% off regular price. then we walked over to the brooklyn bridge, where archie was just a bit scurrred of being on the bridge...poor booboo...

archie took a few good shots using different camera settings too:

after the brooklyn bridge, we found our way back to the hotel to get our bags and a cab, but not before we stopped by one of our most favorite vendors in nyc...NUTS4NUTS!
