.photog.class.is.great.thanks.for.asking.

yes, the class is going well. the instructor is kind of slow, goes off on tangents, could really condense his 3 hour lecture into less than an hour, but i'm trying to look at this optomistically. i figure he must be telling us these stories in order to relate concepts to us...but really, 1/2 of the stories are not effective. i wonder if anyone has been telling him that. i'm making comments in the back of my notebook so that i can properly review him at the end of the session.

i don't know yet if i want to take film photo II or not, or move on to digital photo I. if i take digital photo I, it's just a repeat of what i'm taking now, with the deltas being the lab. (ok, gus just sat in my lap with his head hiding between my knees and is waiting for me to go to bed. he just has to be the center of attention *eyeroll*)

anyways, i love developing the film, and manually printing the pictures. the process is awesome. take so much time, but i love it. there are so many subtle changes you can make when printing pictures, to make it look completely different. whereas the digital people just take the pic, get instant feedback, and can quickly decide which aperture/shutter speeds will work in certain situations. but with film, you can take a pic and then adjust the exposure when printing the actual picture from the negative.

of course there are some things i would like to change with this class. the long lectures. the explanation in lab isn't the best. there's not a glossary available from our instructors to explain whatall the developing/printing equipment is named (i've called so many things 'thingys' during lab, when talking to classmates). but i guess that's how we learn.

i was able to develop my negatives correctly, so i was proud of that. and i guess i took and printed the correct pictures, because when we went thru the photo critique session last night, he said 'excellent' to both of my pictures. the assignment for that roll of film was to take a picture of something in motion and make it look like it's still. and then we had to take a picture showing that there's motion. i'll post them here some other day (gus is now fast asleep and i don't want to wake him). the subjects in the pictures aren't exciting, but they get the assignment done. i know in general what aperture and shutter speeds are needed when taking pictures of objects in motion, in either sunny or shady environments. also, the aperture priority setting on the camera is a godsend. all i need to do is adjust the aperture, and the camera chooses the correct shutter speed

ASSIGNMENT 1 (film roll 2/developing 1) : Complete. :)

this week: depth of field.
